INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER
PLASMA-99
2nd INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER UNDER PLASMA CONDITIONS
19 - 23 April 1999
Club Hotel Corinthia, Tekirova, Antalya, Turkey
SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT
This symposium is a follow up of the highly successful first symposium
on the same subject held in 1994. The main objective of the symposium is
to provide an opportunity for scientists and engineers to present the
state-of-the-art and recent advances in the field of plasma transport
phenomena, discuss current problems and research needs in the area of
plasma physics, covering recent developments in plasma fundamentals and
applications. The emphasis will be on the discussion of basic phenomena
and their applications.
- P. Fauchais, Chairman, Univ. of Limoges, France
- J. Amouroux, ENSCP, Univ. of Paris, France
- M. Boulos, University of Sherbrooke, Canada
- J. Heberlein, University of Minnesota, USA
- H. Kikuchi, Nihon University, Japan
- A. Murphy, CSIRO, Lindfield, NSW, Australia
- E. Pfender, University of Minnesota, U.S.A.
- J. Van der Mullen, University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands
- T. Yoshida, University of Tokyo, Japan
The symposium will be held in Corinthia Club Hotel in Tekirova, Antalya,
Turkey. Antalya is a metropolitan city on the Mediterranean (South) coast
of Turkey close to many historical sites. Most major airlines have direct
flights to Antalya airport. Tekirova, is a small town 70 km to Antalya
airport.
The symposium will have the following sessions and invited talks:
- Plasma torches
- "Arc modeling", J.J. Lowke
- "Electrode phenomena in plasma torches", J. Heberlein
- "Generation of thermal plasmas in torches with liquid stabilized arcs", M. Hrabovsky
- Transport and radiative properties – Flow modeling
- "Coupling of a chemical kinetics model with a two-temperature model in thermal plasma : application to a decaying SF6 arc", A. Gleizes and J.J. Gonzales
- "Flow modeling", P. Proulx
- "Heat exchange between particles and RF plasmas in equilibrium and out of equilibrium jets", S. Dresvin, and J. Amouroux
- Applications including waste treatments
- "Metallurgical applications of thermal plasma arcs : the electric arc furnace technology", D. Neuschütz
- "Manufacturing of solid oxide fuel cells – A challenge for dc and rf plasma deposition processes", R. Henne
- "Plasma destruction of gaseous or liquid wastes", A. Murphy
- "Suspension plasma spraying", F. Gitzhofer
- New branches of plasma physics and transport Properties
- "EHD/EMHD transport processes and electric reconnection in dusty and dirty plasmas", H. Kikuchi
- "Helix string model for turbulent vorticity and cavitation", G. C. Dijkhuis
- Non-equilibrium
- "Non-equilibrium effects induced by mobilities along steep gradients", J. van der Mullen
- "Mechanisms of heat transfer between non equilibrium plasma and a target covered by a semiconductor", P. Cauquot, S. Cavadias, and J. Amouroux
- "Particle and fluid models of radio frequency discharges for thin film deposition", B. Farouk
- Plasma diagnostics
- "Enthalpy probe diagnostics study of the supersonic induction plasma jet", M. I. Boulos, M. Hollenstein, and M. Rahmane
- "Transient phenomena in d.c. torches", J.F. Coudert
There will be oral and poster presentations of contributed papers in each
session as well as the invited talks.
The authors may also present their most recent work as a poster without
having to write a paper. There will be special sessions for recent-work
posters.
All papers, keynotes, oral and poster presentations (except the posters
dedicated to most recent work with no paper) will be peer-reviewed for
publication and published in a dedicated volume of proceedings in the
Annals of New York Academy of Sciences shortly after the symposium.
Selection will be made among the peer-reviewed papers for possible
publication of improved versions of the papers in the Journal of High
Temperature Material Processes.
All authors must closely follow these .
The abstracts of all presentations, including keynotes and recent-work
posters, will be included in a book of abstracts which will be available
on site. A sample extended abstract in the required format and further
information can be found .

Arrival and Departure: The Tourism Agency, PAMFILYA, will, on request,
meet participants arriving at Antalya Airport . You must use the attached
Travel Schedule to inform the ICHMT Secretariat well in advance about your
flight schedule, complete with date and time of your arrival and the name
of the airline. PAMFILYA will provide transportation from the airport
directly to Tekirova Corinthia, and from there back to Antalya airport on
your departure, at a cost given in the table below, in US$ per person,
two ways, that changes according to the number in the party:
| One | Two | Three | Four-to-Nine | Over ten
| | $80 | $40 | $25 | $20 | $15
